  今天,我们聊聊Leader类话题。

  Leaders(领导类)题目一直是托福考试中的一个重点和难点,此类题目的关键词是:leader。

  我们不妨先回顾一下,都有哪些领导类题目:

  【基础题】

  What kind of qualities should a good leader possess? ―― 不限制特定范围

  【衍生题】

  Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

  1. The most important characteristic for a politician or leader is good communication ability.――沟通能力

  2. Communication skill is the most important element in a successful leadership. ――沟通能力

  3. Honesty is the most important characteristic to a leader. ――诚实

  4. An effective leader tries to make others feel they are part of the decision-making process. ――让他人感到自己参与了决策

  5. Many leaders who lead groups believe that they should talk while others should listen, but the best leaders often spend more time listening to the ideas of other people. ――倾听

  6. Leaders should make decisions quickly. If it takes much time for them to make decisions, their followers will doubt their efficiency. ――做决策

  7. The most important characteristic for a political or business leader is the ability to accept their mistakes. ――承认错误

  8. The best leaders should admit their mistakes if they made a bad decision. ――承认错误

  【超难题】

  A/D: No one can learn to be a leader. You're either a born leader or you aren't.

  The greatest asset in leading teams and managing projects is not found in technical tools and procedures but in skillfully relating to people.

  领导团队时,最重要的是与人交往的能力

  1) Don’t criticize or complain about people. 不责备或抱怨他人

  2) Praise improvement, even minor improvements. 褒奖进步,即使很微小

  3) Set a high bar for people and let them know you believe in their ability to succeed. 设立高标准,并让团队知道你相信他们的实力

  4) Make Decisions 能够做决策

  5) Encourage other people to talk and be a good active listener. 鼓励团队成员说出自己的想法,并充当一个倾听者的角色

  6) Be genuinely interested in other people and make them feel important. 真诚对待团队成员,并让他们感到自己很重要

  7) Be respectful of other people’s ideas and opinions. 尊重其他人的想法

  8) Challenge People to Think 让人们去思考

  9) If you are wrong, be honest and humble enough to admit it. 如果错了,诚实谦逊地承认

  10) Genuinely Enjoy Responsibilities. 真诚地享受责任

  【让大家敢于说出自己内心真实的想法】

  Many times leaders intimidate their colleagues with their title and power when they walk into a room. Successful leaders deflect attention away from themselvesand encourage others to voice their opinions(发表自己的观点). They are experts at making others feel safe to speak-up and confidently share their perspectives and points of view. They use their executive presenceto create an approachable environment(营造出一种平易近人的环境).

  * approachable = friendly and easy to talk to (比cordial更合适,因为cordial会有些疏离感,属于国家之间的友好)

  【让人们去思考】

  The most successful leaders understand their colleagues’ mindsets(深知同僚的心态), capabilities and areas for improvement. They use this knowledge/insight to challenge their teams to think and stretch them to reach for more. These types of leaders excel in keeping their people on their toes(擅长让团队成员对一切全力以赴), never allowing them to get comfortable and enabling them with the tools to grow.

  * keep sb. on their toes = to force someone to continue giving all their attention and energy to what they are doing
