Founded in 1932, Midland is a small coeducational college preparatory boarding high school located on 2,860-acres in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, forty-five minutes northeast of Santa Barbara. Through a simple, self-reliant lifestyle, Midland School teaches the value of scholarship, leadership, and environmental stewardship. The property is purposefully incorporated into the academic and co-curricular program. The 9-acre organic garden tended by faculty and students provides the majority of the produce consumed, and over 30 percent of Midland’s electricity needs are met with grid-tied, student-installed solar arrays.
