Graduation Requirements: Seventeen credits are required for the diploma, with a minimum of four academic courses each semester. One credit is given for each subject pursued for a full year; semester courses are given one-half credit. Distribution requirements for the diploma are as follows: English—An English course is required each semester. In their last two years, students take an elective course in writing and two one-semester English electives. Juniors take the required one-semester course, American Literary Traditions (coordinate with the National Cathedral School). Mathematics—Three years of math, including Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus or Finite Mathematics. The honors sequence offers the student a more rigorous development of the material. Honors Algebra II will begin with the class of 2015. Foreign Language—Through level three of a single foreign language. Languages offered are Ancient Greek, Latin, Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish. Honors courses are offered in Spanish. Science—Two years of laboratory science. Two of the three disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics) must be included. An Honors course is offered in Chemistry. History—Cities and Civilization, a one-semester course, is required by the end of the sophomore year; United States History, a year-long course, is required in the junior year.
