• While some of these concepts are now, 65 years later, far more mainstream than they were when Ham and Babs set up their canvas tent and endeavored to build a school, Verde Valley remains importantly distinct.  We deliver education in a way no other school does.  We call it, IB + Dirt.  We are committed to delivering the prestigious and rigorous International Baccalaureate curriculum through a fully developed experiential model.  We take our classroom outside, we roll up our sleeves, we get a little dirty, we try out theories, we live out our learning.   Verde Valley graduates, therefore, leave our campus not only capable students with the critical thinking and writing skills expected of an IB student, but with something else we believe is invaluable: they are full of ingenuity, zest for life, enduring grit and understand the value of balance and reflection.  They know themselves and their world because they have faced both in real, challenging and important ways.

• I first set foot on the campus of Verde Valley School in the summer of 2003.  My husband Andy and I had just completed a year of travel, stopping off in a number of countries and dozens of states in the US.  VVS was like nothing we’d seen during that journey, and almost instantly it felt like home.   Some of the reasons I love VVS:  an open-minded student body where being compassionate and smart are pretty high on the coolness quotient; a rigorous IB program that is not only globally recognized, but which champions inquiry, balance and risk-taking; and a chance every afternoon to ride your horse, climb a nearby mountain or play soccer on one of the most beautiful pitches in the country. For more than six decades Verde Valley School has been working toward a pretty progressive future.  Our founders envisioned a place where young people could come from all over the world to live, work and study together, and build a better world.  It’s something I can tell you a lot about, but you can’t
