Small classes, 21 Advanced Placement and Honors Level courses, art, drama, and music programs support a rigorous curriculum. Wireless Internet service is provided in classrooms and dormitories. All students participate in athletics and extracurricular activities. Most Canterbury students participate in the school's extremely active community service program. A historically strong athletics program is an important part of each student's daily experience. A strong sense of community is evident in all aspects of a Canterbury experience.

As Canterbury’s fifth Headmaster, now in my 24th year, I have never been more proud of our outstanding faculty, excellent programs, and up-to-date facilities. Our culture is steeped in tradition but the classroom experience is on the cutting edge with faculty using current technology but maintaining the crucial faculty-student relationships that form the foundation of our community. To be eligible for a diploma, Sixth Formers must be enrolled in classes on campus in the fall and spring semesters. Sixth Formers who fail a one-credit course or two 1/2 credit courses will not receive a diploma. Sixth Formers who fail two ½ credit courses in the fall semester may not return to campus for the spring semester. GRADING Canterbury uses a standard percentage-based system as a basis for grading. The School reports letter grades based on percentages for each course on report cards for marking periods, terms, exam, and year-end grades. Faculty also give effort grades at the conclusion of each marking period. An effort grade of 1 indicates commendable effort; a grade of 2, satisfactory effort; a grade of 3, unsatisfactory effort. Effort grades are not recorded on the transcript. Letter grades are posted on the transcript. Only semester grades and year-end grades appear on the student’s official transcript.The official average is the GPA recorded on the transcript. It is arrived at by translating the percentage grade for each course to a letter grade and averaging the corresponding equivalent points.
